February continued to be a relatively quiet month, with the
number of people at the group on Tuesdays low, consequently
there are few new photographs added to member’s galleries. I’m
sure lots of sewing and knitting has taken place so if you would
like your work added to the web site please bring it in or send
me a photograph via e-mail.
The item of the month is a table runner in bright
spring/summery colours by Helen Hulm using the pattern many of
us used to make Christmas runners once again demonstrating how
the same pattern can look very different in a different fabric.
The B.O.M workshops continue, 8 blocks have now been
completed; some of the group have constructed additional blocks
to make larger quilts. Everyone is now looking forward to adding
borders and a finished item.
Jan will be holding a fun workshop on June 1st titled
Creative Fabrics, contact her for further information.
The design group of Rachel, Jenny and Yvonne are near
completion of working through the Art + Quilt book
by Lyric Kinard, they have found it very interesting and
a great learning experience. Helen Pegman and Jill
Whiteford have started working through the book and invite others
to join them to form a new group, if interested contact me.
Eloise mentioned a web site she has used for fabric
www.thousandbolts.com I have looked at the
site and as the name implies they have a great range of
materials. The site is very user friendly and prices are very
competitive. Another site which may be of interest for those who
want to add interesting and different blocks to a quilt is that
of
www.jinnybeyer.com the quilt and fabric
designer, she has many free block designs and provides templates
in different sizes. Free patterns for her quilt designs are also
available. The full range of her fabrics are shown and can be
purchased from the site, again the site is user friendly and has
a design wall which allows fabrics to be compared before making
a purchase.
Hope to see you on a Tuesday soon.
Happy sewing
Christine
