I attended a talk by Rebecca Collins at a group meeting in England a few years ago, and I was impressed by a large quilt she had made using this design.  She was explaining the principles of using fabrics paying attention to their hues rather than colours.  Light and dark fabrics, which I didn't like very much from my stash, were cut up and placed in two separate paper bags and mixed up well within  each bag.  The pieces were then picked randomly from each bag and stitched together paying no heed to what colour fabric came from each one.  Honest!!  I was amazed how all the colours went together so well with no pre-planning.  It is the illusion which is effective and catches the eye first, not the fabric colours.  The machine quilting was designed using EQ5.  There was a lot of accurate rotary cutting involved, but the end result was well worth the effort.
