Mixed Media Gallery

I am really pleased with this little A5 size journal cover, made using a technique and instructions from Angie Hughes' new book on mixed media.  I modified it slightly using materials I have collected over the years.  The base is a piece of heavy curtain "bump" (interlining) that I must have had for over 20 years!!  This is covered with some cotton cheesecloth type fabric which used to be curtains that had been rescued from being thrown out by my sister after they had begun to disintegrate from constant exposure to the sun, and the lower half uses scrunched up tissue paper also rescued from being thrown out, this time by my father.  He used to be a shoe designer and as children we used to go with him at weekends and pack the shoes into boxes in tissue paper to earn a few pennies pocket money.  The flowers are cut from odd pieces of lace and painted, then embellished with hot-fix crystals, the string along the bottom is cotton caulking given to me last year by my friend Maureen, and finally the inside is made from fabric from a sari which was found in a charity shop last year.  I mustn't forget the little wooden toggle which was made by my husband from a scrap of wood from one of his furniture projects.  I feel really chuffed to have done my bit for recycling!

The card below has been made using the same techniques as part of the journal cover above.  It is embellished with printing on coloured lightweight Lutrador and an embroidered layered diamond patch.
