A small group of members who want to expand their knowledge of design principles have formed a mini-group within the regular Sew & Sews group. Members taking part are; Yvonne, Maureen Hicks, Rachel, Jenny Hart and Irene.
With the aid of a book by Lyric Kinard and the encouragement of two past City and Guild Certificate (Irene) and Diploma (Jenny Hart) holders within the mini group, the five are working through design and creativity exercises in order to help them “understand the elements and principles that make up the visual language of art” (Lyric Kinard). There are twelve exercises beginning with Texture. The members began by making rubbings of various things in their environment to represent different textures visually and then using these papers cut up into basic shapes, the goal was to make pleasing design compositions before moving on to use one design that they all worked on in fabric and thread in the first book exercise on actual texture. |
